Just as so many CABs are IT centric, so their chairmanship is invariably the CIO... Which is all well and good if the focus is just IT sponsored investments...
...but it so often presents a real challenge for a business centric EA, when the CIO may be mis-represented as being IT-biased. So who chairs a Business/IT CAB?
It depends!
It depends on who sponsors the CAB. If it's the CEO, and they take an active interest in "planning", then it can be Any CxO who has the right breadth of vision across the enterprise and has " the ear" of the CEO; which of course can include the CIO, or a divisional CxO who's business depends (heavily?) on the rest of the enterprise.
Alternatively, the ultimate sponsorship may not rest so high up the enterprise, in which case one looks to the CFO or COO, not only for sponsorship, but also chairmanship.
